My Experience with Apple AirTag

I bought my first AirTags as soon as Apple released them, and they've been incredibly useful. I first used them while moving from the U.S. to Brazil, placing AirTags in my luggage and shipping boxes. This allowed me to track all my items throughout the journey, and I highly recommend doing this if you're moving or traveling.

You can use an AirTag to track any item—keys, wallets, backpacks, bikes, you name it. It's a versatile little device!

Understanding AirTag Battery Life

Apple states that an AirTag battery lasts over a year. In my experience, it lasted about a year and a half. But how do you know when it's time to replace the battery?

  1. Notification: You'll receive a notification on your iPhone when the battery is running low. Replace the battery as soon as you get this notification to avoid losing track of your AirTag.
  2. Find My App: You can also check the battery status through the Find My app on your iPhone.

How to Check AirTag Battery Status

  1. Unlock your iPhone and open the Find My app.
  2. Tap on "Items" to see your list of AirTags.
  3. If an AirTag's battery is low, you'll see a low battery icon next to its name.

Which Battery to Purchase

You need a CR2032 lithium 3V coin battery. This is a common battery type, and you can find it easily on Amazon or other retailers. I recommend the Panasonic brand, but there are many others available. I've added a few suggestions in the description below if you're interested.

How to Replace the AirTag Battery

Here's a step-by-step guide to replacing your AirTag battery:

  1. Press down on the battery cover of your AirTag and rotate it counterclockwise until it stops rotating.
  2. Remove the cover and take out the old battery.
  3. Insert the new battery with the positive side facing up.
  4. Close the cover by pressing down and rotating it clockwise until you hear a click and the AirTag rings.

Verifying the Replacement

After replacing the battery, open the Find My app to check if the low battery icon has disappeared. Hearing the AirTag ring is also a good sign that the replacement was successful.
